In solidarity with national engineers month...
Many girls are convinced that engineering is a field that does not
readily embrace female professionals. The inspiring message of Introduce
a Girl to Engineering Day turns that assumption on its head. The next
generation will see the end of the long held belief about engineering
and gender, in which men have traditionally dominated. For young women
interested in engineering, the walls are coming down, the ceiling is
cracking and the opportunities have never been greater or more
exciting.
“In the United States, women account for nearly 60 percent of college
students, but fewer than one in five of those women are engineering
students.” says Barbara Rusinko, senior vice president of Bechtel. “The
demand for engineers throughout the world can’t be met without engaging
women. Bechtel’s participation in Girl Day is part of our first annual
Stewardship Month—along with other Engineers Week programs the world
over. We’re excited about introducing more young women to the field of
engineering.”
