BMW and the City of San Francisco will inaugurate a premium car-share program using the upscale German automaker’s 100% battery electric ActiveE sedans at a City Hall ceremony on August 20.
BMW and partners are to deploy a fleet of 70 battery electric ActiveE sedans for premium car-sharing in San Francisco.
The event is to include San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and Dr. Ian Robertson, of the BMW board of management.
The new car-share service will feature a fleet of 70 BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicles. The cars, based on BMW’s Series 1 chassis, have water-cooled lithium ion battery packs by SB LiMotive powering a 170-horsepower BMW driveline.
SB LiMotive , a joint venture of Samsung SDI and Robert Bosch, pledged last year to have manufacturing capacity for 50,000 electric cars per year in place by 2013, offering “lithium ion energy storage solutions from single cells to complete battery systems.”
